So I dragged my flute out from underneath the bed in the spare room today, for the first time since...probably when I was still in campus band. So, two years, give or take a little. I'm kind of amazed by how quickly a lot of it comes back.
I still remember most of my major scales, and now my computer has a program that converts .midi files into digital sheet music. I can still play "The Swan" by Saint-Saens (my...sixth grade solo piece, YEAH), but I couldn't find anything else I wanted to try and spent 20 minutes messing around on music from Doctor Who. (WHAT, IT'S PRETTY, OKAY.)
Next time I go back to my parents', I am going to find the box of sheet music and exercise books and bring it back with me. Apparently I've missed it.
Two questions for all the skating fans on my friends list:
1. Is anyone else feeling weirdly possessive about skating in general when the once-every-four-years fans start pretending to know things? Because I keep finding myself dropping the fact that I've been a Shen/Zhao fan since like 2002 into conversation when someone mentions how much they "loved that married Chinese pair." (And oh, just wait until dance starts, Tanith and Ben have been my favorites since before that.)
I also get a big kick out of people wuzrobbing "clean" performances that either had next to no difficulty or zero choreography.
2. And is anyone else sick of explaining the "new" judging system to people who only watch every four years? I say "new" because they used this is Torino...which part of the reason I am so damn annoyed every time Plushenko makes it out like the judging system is out to get him. He won the 2006 Olympics under this judging system...but that's a whole different rant for another time.
On the other hand, I do find it super amusing that one of our sportswriters keeps asking me for medal predictions. Yesterday he asked me if there was any point in watching the ladies competition or if he should just watch Yu-Na highlights afterwards.
There is literally more skating on television and the internet over the next two weeks than I am physically capable of watching, even if I don't attempt to watch Canadian Nationals on CBC (which I am going to TRY, because their men's competition has more drama than a soap opera and it hasn't even started yet.
Let's not talk about how much I hate the US Nationals schedule with a fiery passion, and not JUST because I'll have to miss the free dance/ladies free due to work. (I am way more depressed about missing the free dance, fyi.)
I am so freaking far behind on this thing. That's what happens when I go to my parents' house for three days and get lazy. Ugh. So I'll take a break from HATING MY STUPID UGLY FAKE CHRISTMAS TREE and get going on the posts again.
Seriously, I did not have a problem with the little fake tree last year. This year, however, it's awful and I can't stand it.
...can't I just skip this category? We all know I basically stopped reading when I left college.
